Musical

Best decision that I have done so far in high school. The past two years in the spring I have preoccupied my time with playing track and field. Oh what a mistake that was. I don't even know why I did it. I am not the fastest, I can't jump the furthest, can't jump the highest, and can't run the furthest. There was literally no spot for me in track. So, I went with something different. Something I thought I'd never get caught up in. I went with the Kennedy spring musical.
When I tried out I thought I bombed the audition. When the results came out and I didn't see my name at first, I wasn't even mad because I thought I messed up so bad. Then someone pointed me out and I was Joe! I made it! I signed up for only the chorus but they decided to give me a part in it! I had never done a musical before so I didn't even think I'd get in, let alone a speaking part. That was my entry into the musical world.
The play we did was the Pajama Game. It is about a pajama factory in Cedar Rapids that is undergoing management. The help are all complaining that they aren't getting a 7 1/2 cent raise like the rest of the factory's around. In response to this they start doing their work very sloppily. Not seeing things on right or slowing down the process of making them. It eventually leads to a strike by the workers.
Practice started and it was intense. We danced for the first four days to learn the choreography for the chorus numbers. Man the sucked. We got placed depending on how fast we learned the dances. Then after all of that was done we started on the music.
Oh the music! It was awesome! Every song that we did was so catchy! They were easy to learn too. Each vocal part had the same notes for every song so essentially we picked up on them very easily.
My favorite song was the pajama game. It was so catchy and for some reason every time I sing it I want to put it to a trap remix. I personally think that it would be a hit, but hey, that's just me.
The show is coming together very nicely and I can't wait for performance days. I think everyone will like all of the singing and dancing. And being a Kennedy play, we threw some funny bits in here and there. I hope to see everyone there!

Nashville

Have you ever been to Nashville? Well, this past weekend, I did! Let me tell you this, it was freaking awesome! It was one of the best trips that I have ever been on. It renewed my like for country music, and I thought that would never happen again. It came with a little depressed time because of the actions of a couple friends, but eventually I got over that. I wasn’t gonna let that ruin my trip.
On the way down there, there was a lot of sleep, a lot of music, and a couple movies. I listened to my music for like four of the 12 hours that the bus ride was. Just to get used to the whole country thing in Nashville, I listened to my country playlist on my phone. It consisted of all of the country that my childhood was filled with. I liked it of course, but they weren’t my favorite songs, but it reminded me of what I knew. Then there were the movies, we watched Napoleon Dynamite (dumbest movie ever) and Inside Out (amazing movie).
Then there were the show choirs that we watched once we got there. Most of the girl groups that we watched sucked something awful. Except for one. That on, Los Alaminos all girls group, could have beaten Happiness if they were in our division. I’m just glad that they weren’t.
The night passes and it’s morning. We get up and we have to practice for our performance. After that, we have to get on over to the Grand Ol’ Opry. There we watch more show choirs. As this time goes on, I get more and more nervous. We performed and it was all over. We get back to the seats and we had awards to sit through. We ended up making finals and it was freaking awesome.

Then as the night drew on, I went down to downtown Nashville. Holy crap was that amazing. There were bands in every bar that we went to. Music filled my ears and the smell of food and cigarettes filled my nose.
